OC Sajjad Roman successfully maintaining law and order in Mirpur

The police are trying to turn around after the fall of the Hasina government in the mass uprising of students and the public. But due to financial crisis, the investigation of cases is being severely hampered. Moreover, due to the shortage of manpower in various police stations and units, they are having to do more duty than the scheduled time.

After August 5, 2024, the police are continuing their activities to provide the desired services to the people. In order to further accelerate the operational activities of the Bangladesh Police, all the police members, including the officers-in-charge working in the 50 police stations of the DMP, are working tirelessly day and night to restore the image of the Bangladesh Police Force and gain positive appreciation from the people. Separate teams have also been formed to carry out anti-drug operations and arrest criminals.

DMP's Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sajjad Roman has already set an example for the people of Mirpur in controlling law and order with his subordinate officers and forces.

He has brought back discipline in the police station. The victims are not being harassed like before when they go to the police station. They do not even have to pay money to the police to get the desired service. There has been no incident of any police officer or constable being dismissed or closed for crime or immoral acts so far, said Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sajjad Roman.

Sajjad Roman did not hesitate to arrest several leaders of the anti-discrimination movement on charges of extortion. This brave police officer did not hesitate to arrest even some leaders of the BNP's Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, who had specific allegations of extortion against them.

Mirpur zone is the stronghold of Awami League. He arrested and sent out banned Chhatra League leaders accused in the student-public murder case without hesitation. He declared zero tolerance against drugs. OC Roman has been socially respected by conducting raids on residential hotels, super hostels and residential messes. He has arrested those involved in eradicating anti-social activities and sent them to jail. Sajjad Roman's honesty and courage are behind the success of many works.

He takes advice from his superiors before every task. Under his leadership, all the police members of the police station are working together to improve the law and order situation. OC Sajjad Roman has also made a mark in the hearts of the people of Mirpur in a short time.

On August 3 (Sunday) at 3:30 pm, this reporter had a face-to-face conversation with Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sajjad Roman to inquire about the law and order situation in Mirpur. During this time, he openly discussed general issues including the law and order and political situation in Mirpur.

Sajjad Roman said, "After August 5, 2024, the police force has been struggling to manage the law and order situation. We have been working with challenges every moment. With the smart leadership and prudence of the IGP, the correct guidance of the Police Commissioner, and the patience and relentless work of the Deputy Police Commissioners of each zone, the law and order situation of the DMP has come under the control of the police."

Mirpur is a densely populated area. About two million people live in Mirpur. The locals were fed up with the terror, drug dealers and extortionists. Many people used to run away in fear of extortionists. Robberies were done openly. Drug dealers used to sell drugs in broad daylight everywhere. Under the smart leadership of Deputy Police Commissioner Maksudur Rahman Sir, I was able to suppress them with my forces with a strong hand, he added.

Sajjad Roman also said that security has been strengthened in the police station area in view of the rumors that are being heard around August 5. Three check posts have been set up. Check posts are operating on Barek Molla (60 feet), the road in front of Misco Supermarket and the road in front of German Technical between Mirpur 1 and 10. Special patrols and security have been strengthened in special areas of the police station, including patrol parties and Honda mobiles. In addition, special searches are continuing in residential hotels, super hostels and residential messes.

So far, not a single policeman has been dismissed for any unethical activity. Because every week I hear about the pros and cons of the force/officers regarding the rules, he said.

In response to a question about the victims, OC Mirpur said, 40/50 calls are received on 999 every day. The mobile teams of the police station go to the spot and inspect the spot. Cases are taken on those matters that require cases. And those that are filed with a GD are properly investigated and necessary measures are taken. If a political party sends a letter seeking security for a program, they are fully supported. Special operations are conducted 7 days a month to eradicate drugs.

He also said that recently, an anti-crime meeting was organized with citizens in the Duip residential area of ​​Bit No. 2 area of ​​Mirpur Model Police Station. Police interaction with the public is very important. It is necessary to inform the public about police services. Citizens have also been informed about what the police can and cannot do.

OC Sajjad Roman said that 3 pistols, 1 shotgun, and 295 rounds of bullets lost in July-August were recovered, and 197 rounds of bullets were recovered in the next phase.

In response to various questions from this reporter, OC Sajjad Roman said that 13 associates of Jubo League leader SM Zahid and Councilor Joni have been arrested in connection with the murder of the anti-discrimination movement. Case number-9, dated 15/08/24, Section-302/34. Among those arrested, Mitul confessed in his statement under Section 164 that they committed the murder in Mirpur on the orders of Zahid and Joni and excited by Sheikh Hasina's speech. In addition, some people involved in the student movement have been arrested on charges of extortion based on evidence. A case has also been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Extortionists Tariqul, Ujjal of Kalyanpur slum and Ita Babul of Mirpur 1 have been arrested. All of them are involved in BNP politics. Three kidnappers have been arrested within 48 hours in the Sheorapara robbery incident that went viral on Facebook. OC Sajjad Roman said that out of 50 cases filed by this police station, 20 were drug cases.

When asked, OC Sajjad Roman said, the law and order situation is being controlled with a small number of policemen. Each policeman is on duty for 12/14 hours. However, each policeman is sincere. There are 38 sub-inspectors, 32 ASIs, 40 force and 12 female policemen in Mirpur Model Police Station. He said that each of them performs their duties with dedication.

According to the case file of Mirpur Model Police Station, police and local people arrested two former activists of the banned Chhatra League, Shahidul and Tutul, during the procession and attempted to disrupt the chaos. The arrested accused are accused of being involved in the murder of students protesting against discrimination at No. 2 and No. 10 in Mirpur.

On July 9, top terrorist and extortionist Md. Parvez was arrested from 99/2/3 (Ali Mia Tech) Pirerbagh. He
has multiple drug and extortion cases filed against him in various DMP police stations, including 3 drug and extortion cases in Mirpur Model Police Station.

On July 8, a surprise raid was conducted at Dhaka Palace, Hotel Singapore, and Hotel Prime Inn under the leadership of the Officer-in-Charge. During the raid, 2 girls and 2 boys were arrested for engaging in immoral activities at Hotel Dhaka Palace, and 3 staff members were arrested for assisting in the said activities.

In addition, in the wake of the General Diary (GD) and complaints of the mobile phone owners regarding the loss and theft of mobile phones, ASI Kamal Hossain recovered 15 mobile phones with the help of information technology. Officer-in-charge Sajjad Roman handed over the recovered mobile phones to the real owners. The mobile phone owners were happy to get the lost mobile phones back as soon as possible and expressed their gratitude to the police. The victims greatly appreciated the Mirpur Model Police Station.

On July 6, due to dominance and political conflict in Mirpur, a gang of teenagers led by Ward No. 12 Jubo Dal President candidate Md. Rashed and Mirpur Thana Chhatra Dal joint convener Piyaru Islam Ramzan and his cousin Alamin kidnapped 14-year-old teenager Md. Zubayer and brutally tortured him. On July 7, four people were arrested in Manipur in connection with an extortion case. The arrested Anwar Hossain Tabid, Md. Mintu Mia, Md. Ratan Mia and Md. Ismail Hossain were taken hostage and demanded a ransom of Tk 2 million, calling them Awami League fascists. They paid them Tk 5 million in various ways.

On August 1, a raid was conducted in the Kalyanpur Notun Bazar, Mizan Tower area and the notorious extortionist Md. Ujjal Rahman was arrested. In addition, a drug dealer named Ali Raj was arrested for stealing 20 thousand taka. There are drug cases against him in various DMP police stations. Police say that Ali Raj is a drug dealer. In this way, Mirpur Model Police Station is constantly arresting criminals.

Md. Sajjad Roman has been awarded the IGP Batch (2025) award in recognition of his work. He joined Mirpur Model Police Station as an Investigation Officer on October 9, 2024. He was appointed as Officer-in-Charge on February 27, 2025. He was working in PBI before August 5.
