Teknaf town in Cox’s Bazar district experienced mild tremors after a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal shortly after midnight.
The quake originated at 3:29am on Thursday (27 November), about 118 kilometres from Teknaf.
According to Volcano Discovery, the tremor was so slight in Teknaf that most residents did not feel it.
While Volcano Discovery did not provide depth information, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the quake occurred 10 kilometres beneath the surface.
Last Friday, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Dhaka and different parts of the country ̵ one of the strongest quakes felt in recent years.
The intensity of that quake sent people rushing out of homes and buildings in panic. Witnesses said they had never experienced such a powerful tremor before. As the shaking began, residents poured out of high-rise buildings, and chaos unfolded across homes, offices, and commercial areas.
The quake, which originated in Narsingdi, left at least 10 people dead and hundreds injured across the country.
