Women entrepreneur and former MP Selima Ahmad passes away

Prominent female entrepreneur, business leader, and former member of parliament Selima Ahmad is no more.
She breathed her last on Sunday evening while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bangkok. She was 70 at the time of her death.

When her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok. She died while undergoing treatment at 7:40 pm Bangladesh time on Sunday. Her body will be brought to the country Tuesday, family sources said.
Selima Ahmad was the vice chairman of one of the country's industrial groups, Nitol-Niloy Group. She is the wife of former FBCCI president and Nitol-Niloy Group chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmad.
Her role in creating women entrepreneurs along with business and commerce was particularly notable.
As the founding president of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI), she made a significant contribution in organizing women entrepreneurs in the country, ensuring financing, training and market facilities for them. Under her leadership, thousands of women entrepreneurs have had the opportunity to engage in business activities.
She also played an active role in the political arena. She served as a member of the Parliament from Comilla-2 (Homna-Titas) constituency. At the same time, she was also the former vice-president of Comilla North District Awami League.
In recognition of her contribution to business and social development, she received the 'Oslo Business for Peace Award' in 2014. She was given this honor for her contribution to social values, peace and inclusive development in addition to her business success.
Various business organizations, women entrepreneur organizations and political leaders have expressed their condolences on her death. They said that Selima Ahmad's contribution to the development of women entrepreneurs will be remembered in the country's history.
