Bangladesh turns into a lucrative FDI destination: Momen


Foreign Minister Dr Abdul Momen on Tuesday said that Bangladesh has turned into a lucrative destination for foreign direct investment (FDI).

He was interacting with members of renowned Turkish thinktank - Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV).

“Bangladesh became one of the attractive investment destinations in its region due to investment friendly policy of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leading current government,” he said.  

The foreign minister was speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion titled “The Economic and Political relation between Bangladesh and Turkey” organised by TEPAV in Turkish capital Ankara today, a foreign ministry press release said here this evening.  

Dr Momen, who is now at an official visit in Ankara, said any country including Turkey can be Bangladesh’s partner of its ongoing development through making investment here.   

“We have two main resources water and human resource. We need to utilize these resources effectively,” he said.

The foreign minister exchanged views with the TEPAV members in wide range of issues including climate change, migration, Rohingya crisis, Bangladesh-Turkey bilateral ties as well as trade potentials.    

TEPAV leaders emphasized on tapping the under-utilized potentials of Bangladesh.

TEPAV’s founding director Güven Sak, policy analyst Murat Kenanoglu, Ankara policy centre vice president Ömer Önhon, macro-economic studies programme director Ali Çufadar and consultant Fatih Özatay and multilateral trade studies center director Bozkurt Aran took part in the discussion.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Turkey Mosud Mannan was also present.
