All houses to come under holding tax

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is going to start a drive on Tuesday bringing all houses and commercial establishments under its tax net.

Revenue will be imposed on newly-constructed buildings and houses apart from re-fixing amount of taxes for establishments which are already under the net.

Sources said the city corporation has decided to launch the drive at a time when its tax earning is being seriously affected due to corona pandemic.

Earlier, DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam at various programmes said that its development projects are being badly hindered due to fall in revenue collection.

He disclosed the fresh move while visiting different areas under the corporation on Sunday.

Many people are using establishments commercially but they are not paying tax properly, Atiqul alleged.

Owners of all houses and business bodies will have to pay due tax, he said, adding amount of outstanding figure stands at around Tk100 crore.

He also issued cautioned against the grabbers of footpaths and government properties and lands.
