Mobile court in homes to stop mosquito breeding: DSCC

FT ONLINE

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has stated that they will run mobile courts from home to home in order to put a stop to the breeding of mosquitoes which has become a significant issue of late.

Addressing a views-exchange meeting at the Nagar Bhaban, Khokon said, “If any Aedes mosquito breeding ground or its eggs or larva is found at any house, action will be taken against the house owner.”

He said that the owners of the houses possessing mosquito breeding spots will have to face fine or imprisonment or both.

He said mobile courts will carry out drives at houses in the city’s different areas on April 8 to search for breeding ground of Aedes mosquitoes, responsible for the spread of dengue and chikungunya.

Sayeed Khokon said that copies of a notice would be sent to the 1.65 lakh house owners under DSCC urging them to make sure that there was no breeding spot of Aedes mosquitoes left at their homes.

Notably, residents and public representatives of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) also came up with the demand to ensure spreading adequate chemicals under constant monitoring to tackle the continuing mosquito menace in the city.

Speaking at another views-exchange meeting, they also demanded the authorities clean the city canals, drains and wetlands regularly to contain breeding of mosquitoes at source.
