Victory Day programmes announced


Various programmes have been taken at the national level to celebrate the Victory Day-2021 with due respect and solemnity.

In the morning of December 16, the programmes of the day will begin through a 50-gun salute.

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will pay tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths at the National Martyrs' Memorial at Savar with the rise of the sun.

Later, led by the liberation affairs minister, the heroic freedom fighters and wounded freedom fighters and their family members will place wreaths there.

Several diplomats, leaders of Awami League and different political and social organisations and people from all walks of life will also pay tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths.

Besides, a colourful parade of the combined forces and motorcade showcasing activities of different ministries will be held at 10:30am at the National Parade Square at Tejgaon Old Airport in the capital.

The president will inspect the parade and receive salutations as the chief guest.

The prime minister will also be present at the parade.

The day is a public holiday.

As part of its programmes, the national flag will be hoisted at all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings across the country.

Important buildings and installations will be illuminated, while the main roads and road islands of Dhaka and other cities will be decorated with the national flag and other flags.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will issue separate messages on the occasion of the day.

Marking the day, national dailies will bring out special supplements and Bangladesh Postal Department will release memorial postage stamps.

The state-owned and private television channels and radios will broadcast special programmes, highlighting the Liberation War.

Various social and cultural organisations, including Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangla Academy, National Museum, Liberation War Museum, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, will organise Liberation War based discussions, cultural programmes, drawing competitions for children, essay composition and sports competitions, and exhibition of documentaries.

A discussion on the best utilisation of digital technology and holding the spirit of the Liberation War in building Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be held on the occasion.

Besides, receptions of heroic freedom fighters and family members of martyrs will be held in the metropolis, districts and upazilas.

Following the health guidelines, special prayers will be offered at mosques and other places of worship, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of the Liberation War and peace, progress and prosperity of the country.

Improved diets will be served to inmates of jails, hospitals, orphanages, Shishu Bikash Kendra, and vagrant homes.

Similar programmes will be taken at district and upazila levels as well as Bangladesh missions abroad, highlighting the significance of the day.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has requested the public not to do any damage to the flower garden while laying wreaths at the National Martyrs' Memorial during the Victory Day celebrations.
