Tuku urges joint action to ensure law and order

The state minister made the remarks while addressing a special meeting of the District Law and Order Committee and an exchange of views held today at the conference room of the Dhaka District Commissioner

Fulfilling public expectations from a democratic government requires the administration, law enforcement agencies, elected representatives and civil society to discharge their respective responsibilities with sincerity and dedication, said State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku, MP.

He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to improve the law and order situation, control drug abuse and build a healthy and safe society.

The state minister made the remarks while addressing a special meeting of the District Law and Order Committee and an exchange of views held today at the conference room of the Dhaka District Commissioner.

Tuku, who is assigned to oversee law and order and other development activities in Dhaka district, attended the meeting as the chief guest.

The meeting was chaired by Dhaka District Commissioner Farida Khanam. Senior Information Officer of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md Mamun Hasan confirmed this to the media.

Drug abuse threatens society

Describing drug abuse as one of the country’s major social challenges, the state minister said the spread of drugs is contributing to a rise in crime.

“Alongside strict action by law enforcement agencies, we need to raise public awareness and build a strong social movement against drug abuse,” he said.

He also called on the relevant authorities to take effective measures to prevent the spread of juvenile gangs.

Referring to the rise of juvenile gangs during the previous “fascist government,” Tuku said their negative impact is still visible across different sections of society.

“Families, educational institutions, local administrations and communities must work together to keep young people away from crime,” he said.

Uphold good governance

Addressing government officials, the state minister said serving the people and ensuring good governance must remain their primary responsibilities.

He urged officials to embrace Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s “Bangladesh First” vision and perform their duties with honesty, efficiency and dedication.

Such commitment, he said, would further strengthen public confidence in the government.

Focus on environmental protection

Tuku also underscored the importance of protecting the environment alongside economic development.

He called for effective measures to tackle river pollution, improve industrial waste management and maintain the ecological balance of urban areas.

“Everyone must play a responsible role in building a liveable Bangladesh for future generations,” he said.

Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhaka District, additional deputy commissioners, representatives of various law enforcement agencies, officials of the Local Government Division, elected representatives and members of the District Law and Order Committee were present at the meeting.
