Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Birdem General Hospital has been closed after a patient undergoing treatment there tested positive for coronavirus.
Around 40 doctors, nurses and staffers have been sent to home quarantine after the authorities received the test result yesterday, Dr Nazimul Rahman, joint director Birdem Hospital, told The Daily Star.
The patient was admitted to the hospital's nephrology department on April 14 and was shifted to the ICU on April 18, the doctor said.
The patient's samples were sent to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) lab for coronavirus test, which turned out positive, said Dr Nazimul.
Soon after receiving the test report, the patient was shifted to Kurmitola General Hospital, he said.
The patient was earlier admitted to the Birdem Hospital with multiple complications but the doctors discharged the person with a suggestion for coronavirus test.
The first test conducted by the BSMMU showed negative for Covid-19, the doctor said.
The person again got admitted to the hospital with the same complaints on April 14, he added.
