Bangladesh confirmed 1,251 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 25,121.
Meanwhile, 21 more people died of the lethal disease in the last 24 hours to 8:00am today. With the latest, the death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 370.
Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), disclosed the information while briefing the media live on the daily COVID-19 bulletin at 2:30pm.
The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 8,449 samples in 42 labs in the 24-hour period, she said.
Besides, the recovery count also jumped to 4,993 after 408 patients were discharged from hospitals during the period under review.
The country reported the first cases of coronavirus on March 08 and the first death 10 days later on March 18.
In an effort to contain the virus, the whole country has been put on shutdown since March 26, but numbers of new cases continue to increase.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 320,189 as of Tuesday noon.
There have been 4,894,364 confirmed cases around the world after the highly contagious disease was first reported in China in December last, according to worldometer, a website that provides real-time updates.
Of those infected, 2,664,887 are currently undergoing treatment with 44,771 being in serious or critical condition.
As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
