The High Court (HC) on Monday issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why it shall not declare illegal the decision of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) to increase price of water by 25 percent from April 1.

The court also asked them to explain as to why it shall not declare illegal the section of WASA act related to price hike.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard.

“The writ was filed, challenging Dhaka WASA’s decision to hike the price without increasing the standard of its service,” Advocate Tanvir Ahmed, who filed and moved the writ before the court.

Local government division secretary and Dhaka WASA authorities were made respondents at the writ.
