Voting to elect the new managing committee of the Jatiya Press Club is underway in the capital on Thursday.

The voting began at 9:00 am and will continue until 5:00 pm without any break.

A total of 46 candidates are contesting for 17 posts of the managing committee.

Meanwhile, the 23rd biennial general meeting of the Jatiya Press Club was held at its auditorium on Wednesday.

Under the supervision of senior journalist Md Mostofa-e-Jamil, a seven-member Election Conducting Committee will conduct the election. Other members of the committee are Zafar Iqbal, Mostafizur Rahman, SM Shawkat Hossain, Goutam Arindam Barua, Shamima Chowdhury and Md Moniruzzaman.

Two panels led by Farida Yasmin-Omar Faruque Parishad and Sabuj-Ilyas Parishad are contesting in the election. A total of 34 candidates of these two panels are vying for 17 posts of the committee.

Besides, seven more candidates outside the panels are contesting for several posts.
