Backlog of cases is not decreasing at desired rate in the country despite having various initiatives of the government.
Shortage of judges has been mainly blamed for this in the Law Commission report.
As per the information of the report, there is one judge for every 3,186 people in the USA while one judge for every 94,444 people in Bangladesh.
Mentioning that recruitment of some 5,000 judges is crucial to resolve the crisis of judges, in the report it has been recommended to employ at least 500 judges every year considering the practical situation.
After discussion of the report in a meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday, it has been emphasised on the action of the recommendations of Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
It has been stated in the Law Commission report that there were some 41 lakh 96 thousand 603 subjudice cases in the district courts, including the High Court, till December 31.
Of the cases, the number of pending cases in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court was 19,128, some 5 lakh 16 thousand 674 in the High Court and some 36 lakh 60 thousand one in other courts, including District and Sessions Judges Courts.
