LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday termed Ektee Bari Ektee Khamar Project as major weapon to alleviate poverty as the project will benefit 60 lkah families or three crore people.
He was addressing a session with divisional commissioners on ways to achieve targets of EBEK project of the government at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Secretariat in the capital.
Mosharraf said EBEK is the only project in the world which is contributing to make poor people self-reliant through micro savings instead of microcredit.
He said the existing load system is as like as a net as poor people can never come out from the net.
That is why, he said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina introduced the project to make poor people self-reliant.
State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Md Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary SM Golam Faruque and EBEK Project Director Md Akbar Hossain were present on the occasion, among others.
