A BNP-led alliance has launched a two-day sit-in movement demanding Indian authorities give Bangladesh fair share of waters in trans-boundary rivers.
The major sit-in programme, incorporating five lakh people, would be held on 230 kilometre area on the Teesta River’s bank.
Eleven points in five northern districts – Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, and Gaibandha – have been selected as venues for holding the programme simultaneously.
A large number of locals as well as civil society members and river experts are also expected to participate.
Asabul Hasib Dulu, organisational secretary of BNP’s unit at Rangpur Division, have lead the preparations for the programme. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir would also take part, while BNP Acting Chairman Tareque Rahman would address the crowd virtually on Tuesday.
