A Turkish Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) after a bird strike caused one of its engines to catch fire moments after takeoff.

The incident happened around 7:00 am on Tuesday when Flight TK713, an Airbus A330-303, departed from Dhaka for Istanbul with 280 passengers and 11 crew members on board.

Airport authorities said the aircraft returned safely and no one was injured.

"Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft struck a bird, which caused sparks in one of the engines. The pilot decided to return immediately and landed the plane safely," said Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Witnesses and officials confirmed that fire sparks were visible from one of the engines during the brief flight.

Emergency response teams were kept on alert at the airport, but the aircraft landed without further incident.

Airport officials said all passengers were safely evacuated, and alternative arrangements were being made for their onward journey.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has launched an investigation into the incident.
