The body of a Bangladesh Chhatra League activist, found with his limbs bound, has been recovered from a septic tank in Lakshmipur eight days after he went missing.

Police said one individual was arrested over the incident in Dhaka, but did not reveal his name.

The body was recovered from the septic tank of an expatriate’s vacant house in Sadar Upazila on Saturday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi said this while briefing reporters.

The dead, identified as Fazle Rabbi, 21, was a resident of Hazirpara Union in Sadar Upazila. Locals said he was a student of Chandraganj Kafil Uddin Degree College and a Chhatra League activist.

Rabbi’s uncle Md Suhrawardy said his nephew had gone missing on Jan 16.

The next day, his father Bellal Hossain filed a general diary (GD) with Chandraganj Police.

On Saturday, locals detected a foul smell from the septic tank and found the body. Police said the motive and perpetrators remain unknown.

SP Kazemi said, “The body has been sent to the Sadar hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Preparations to file a case are under way.”
