A total of 133 ordinances promulgated during the tenure of the interim government have been referred to a special committee of the National Parliament. The committee has been directed to review these ordinances and submit its report by April 2.
On Sunday, Law Minister Asaduzzaman proposed sending the ordinances to the special committee in the National Parliament. The proposal was subsequently accepted, and the ordinances were referred to the committee.
Earlier, the parliamentary session began at 11:00 AM under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
According to the Constitution, any ordinance promulgated by the President must be placed before Parliament in its first session following the promulgation. Accordingly, the Law Minister had tabled the ordinances during the very first meeting of the inaugural session of the 13th National Parliament last Thursday.
Typically, the relevant Ministry-related Standing Committee examines bills and submits reports to Parliament. however, these standing committees have not yet been formed.
To address this, a 14-member special committee was constituted during the first meeting of the 13th Parliament to scrutinize the ordinances and provide a report.
The special committee is chaired by BNP member Zainul Abdin. Other members include:
