India is officially reviewing Bangladesh's formal request for the extradition of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through its judicial and legal channels. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on Friday, April 17, 2026, that the request is undergoing a rigorous evaluation within India's domestic legal framework.
While acknowledging the sensitivity of Hasina's presence in India since August 2024, New Delhi remains committed to maintaining a "constructive and stable" relationship with Dhaka's new administration.
Jaiswal emphasized that India will follow due process while prioritizing regional stability and cooperation in trade, energy, and security, with high-level bilateral meetings expected to take place soon to further these goals.
