India has appointed veteran politician and former Union Minister Dinesh Trivedi as its new High Commissioner to Bangladesh, in a significant diplomatic reshuffle aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

Trivedi will replace the current envoy Pranay Verma. Known for his fluency in Bengali despite his Gujarati business family background, his linguistic ability is expected to play a key role in enhancing diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

His close ties with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extensive political experience, and deep understanding of Bengali culture are seen as major factors behind his appointment.

Meanwhile, outgoing envoy Pranay Verma has been appointed as India’s next envoy to Brussels, Belgium. His new role is expected to strengthen India’s diplomatic engagement with the European Union.

The reshuffle is being seen as a key step in expanding India’s international influence across both South Asia and Europe.
