An Italy-returnee man died from fever and shortness of breath at a local hospital in Bhairab Upazila of Kishoreganj on Sunday night.
Bulbul Ahmed, member secretary of Bhairab Upazila Corona Protection Committee confirmed the matter.
Local people said, the expat, 60, went to Italy 18 years ago and returned to Bangladesh on February 28 this year.
He was caught by fever and breathing problem on Saturday. He breathed his last at around 11 pm at a private hospital in Bhairab.
The victim was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night and later shifted to a private hospital as his condition deteriorated.
A team of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has collected specimens from his body this morning, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) office source said.
After the incident, Upazila administration brought 10 houses adjacent to the deceased resident, a hospital and a doctor’s chamber under lockdown.
