The law enforcers could not find out at least 35,000 foreign returnees after conducting drives at their respective addresses of passports of the country till Tuesday.

According to media report, all the returnees from abroad did not follow the instructions of the government properly although they were asked to provide information to the local police stations, if they do not stay at their respective places or addresses as per the passport information.

Sources said those foreign returnees who provided information voluntarily and also were identified by police investigation are now under the surveillance of the law enforcement agencies.

Cases will be filed against them if they are identified as responsible persons for spreading coronavirus after violating government directive.

Similar legal actions will be taken against the foreign returnees who have gone into hiding. But, assistances will be given to those who will voluntarily communicate, stated different police sources.

On March 24, the Police Headquarters (PHQ) issued a notification and asked those -who have returned from abroad from March 1 and have not been staying at the places as per the passport information- to contact with the local police stations.   

The government  came up with the instruction in a bid to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.
