Three members of a Bangladeshi family were killed and another seriously injured in a brutal stabbing attack in Italy’s Rome on Friday night.

The incident occurred at around 9:00pm local time in a residential apartment on Via Montiglio, near Pineta Sacchetti in western Rome.

The head of the family, Kamal Hossain, has been identified among the victims. He was originally from Companiganj Upazila in Noakhali, Bangladesh, and had been living in Italy with his family for many years.

The other two victims were Kamal Hossain's wife and their five-year-old daughter. The couple's 18-year-old son sustained serious injuries after being stabbed during the attack and was rushed to hospital by police.

According to local media reports, an unidentified assailant entered the apartment armed with a knife and killed the three members of a Bangladeshi family. Kamal Hossain, his wife, and their young daughter died at the scene from multiple stab wounds.

Police said the family's eldest son attempted to stop the attacker but was also stabbed. Despite his injuries, he managed to leave the apartment and seek help, prompting neighbors to alert emergency services.

Police officers, ambulance crews, and members of Italy's Carabinieri special police force responded to the scene, recovering the bodies of the three victims and transporting the injured teenager to a nearby hospital.

Following the attack, Rome police launched a large-scale operation and tightened security in the area. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the killings and identify the suspect.

Italian media, citing doctors, reported that the injured teenager is now in stable condition and is no longer in immediate danger.

Special investigators and forensic experts have collected evidence from the crime scene. Authorities have not yet determined the motive for the attack.

Police said they are examining all possible motives, including whether the killings were premeditated, linked to a robbery, or the result of a personal dispute. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify and apprehend the attacker.

Members of the Bangladeshi community in Italy have condemned the attack and demanded that the perpetrator be brought to justice.

A senior Rome police official described the incident as "a tragic and horrific crime", adding that investigators are giving the case the highest priority.

Italian law enforcement authorities said the identities of the victims and further details of the investigation are not being officially disclosed at this stage to protect the integrity of the ongoing inquiry. More information will be released at a later press briefing.
