The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has formed a media cell to prevent spreading fake news related to coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The cell will inform the media about the activities conducted by the ministry and will take steps against the perpetrators behind fake news.

A press release signed by the Deputy Secretary of the ministry Khandakar Zakir Hossain informed that the media cell will have five members.

"The committee will review and inform summaries of the news published through various media to the authorities including the minister and secretaries and it will regularly brief the media about activities undertaken by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding COVID-19," the press statement said.

If any wrong, misleading and intentional information is published on the media, the media cell will correct and explain that. It will also prepare the statement of the ministry and publish it with approval of the authorities, the press release reads.
