An air ambulance left without taking a patient with Covid-19 symptoms at Agrabad Colony in Chattogram on Sunday afternoon.
The patient - Dr Zafar Hossain Rumi - is a medical officer of the paediatric department at Agrabad Mother and Child Hospital.
The hospital authorities said, Zafar Hossain was admitted to the hospital on Saturday with shortness of breath. He was first admitted to the cabin for medical treatment, but as his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Saturday afternoon. An air ambulance was called on Sunday to take him to Dhaka as his health further worsened.
On Sunday afternoon, an air ambulance came and took position in the field. While picking up the doctor, the air ambulance authorities came to know that Zafar Hossain had symptoms of coronavirus. Later, the air ambulance left without taking him.
Dr Robiul Mustafa, in charge of the Mother and Child hospital, said, "Dr Zafar Hossain's coronavirus test came out negative. Samples were taken again for the second test."
"Dr Zafar's oxygen saturation is not above 90/92 and so he cannot be treated at the Mother and Child Hospital. He is in critical condition," Dr Robiul added.
