Highlights: 

1. Total damage from the cyclone worth Tk1,100 crore.

Extensive damage of approximately Tk1,100 crore has been anticipated in 26 districts that were hit by cyclone Amphan on Wednesday evening.

Three districts that were affected most during the cyclone are Satkhira, Bagerhat and Patuakhali. 

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman revealed the information during a virtual briefing on Thursday. 

The cyclone damaged 1100 kilometres of roads, 200 bridges and culverts, and 233 local government offices. 

The water that broke through the embankments has affected 1,80,500 hatcheries in the coastal regions. The loss will be approximately Tk325 crore. 

According to the Ministry of Water Resources, 150kilometres of embankments have been affected by the cyclone. The embankments have either damaged or completely broke in at least 84 places. 

A huge amount of houses have been damaged. But the exact number is yet to be confirmed. Cyclone Amphan has damaged mangoes worth approximately Tk150 crore.

Meanwhile, around one crore people in the south-western and north-western regions have been left without electricity as super cyclone Amphan has destroyed the power supply system.

Electricity supply was cut off from Wednesday afternoon once the cyclone lashed the coastline of the Sundarbans.

In the absence of electricity, communications have been disrupted in the coastal regions and mobile phone networks are not working in some of the worst hit areas.

The storm caused around 60 percent network towers of the region to be cut off the power supply.

The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) said it was expecting to restore the power supply by Thursday evening.
