Government has appointed Dhaka University Professor Dr SM Mahfuzur Rahman as the chairman of the state-run Janata Bank replacing incumbent board chair Dr Jamal Uddin.

Mahfuzur Rahman, former chair of the DU’s Department of Banking, will perform his duties for three years from the date of joining, said a Finace Ministry circular signed by Deputy Secretary Jahid Hossain on Tuesday.

SM Mahfuzur Rahman played role as chairman at the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh earlier.

Jamal Uddin, general secretary of the Bangladesh Economics Association, joined Janata Bank as chairman on August 26 in 2019.
