Environment and Forest Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud on Saturday said the government would take effective steps to ensure safety, compensation and insurance for the construction workers.
Addressing a function of Bangladesh Construction Workers Union (BCWU) to handover cheques to needy workers, the minister urged its leaders to bring their organization within a structure.
BCWU President Robiul Islam presided over the function held at the Institute of Diploma Engineers at Kakrail in city. Najmul Haque Pradhan, MP, was present on the occasion, among others.
"The construction workers are the architects to build beautiful towns and the country, but they themselves live very humble lives. They don't get any appointment letter. If they work, they get paid, if they miss work even for a single day, they have to go hungry. So they have to be brought under a structure," Anisul Islam Mahmud said.
