The Anti-Corruption Commission has submitted a charge sheet against nine people including former civil surgeon of Satkhira Towhidur Rahman on charges of embezzling Tk 16.71 crore.
Md Jahangir Alam, deputy director of the ACC and also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to a court on Sunday.
The other accused are storekeeper at civil surgeon’s office AKM Fazlul Haque, its accountant Anwar Hossain, Bengal Scientific and Surgical Co proprietor Jaher Uddin Sarker, Md Abdus Sattar Sarker, Ahsan Habib, Asadur Rahman, Kazi Abu Bakar Siddique, and engineer AHM Abdus Quddus.
The accused in collusion with each other made three fake bills showing purchase of medical equipment for Satkhira General Hospital and upazila health complexes in the district though there was no demand letters, according to case statement.
The accused withdraw over Tk 16.71 crore by making the three fake bills and abusing powers and embezzled the amount, it said.
