Dr Md Wajed Ali Khan, former director general of Bangladesh Television, died from coronavirus infections at a hospital in the capital on Monday noon.
Wajed Ali, an organiser of liberation war in 1971, breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College Hospital (BSMMU) while undergoing treatment.
The 72-year-old former DG was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday with corona symptoms and later tested positive for the virus.
His wife Rehena Begum is now undergoing treatment at the same hospital in a critical condition.
Md Liakat Ali Khan, younger brother of the deceased, confirmed the matter.
Dr Wajed Ali also served as Chairman of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, Deputy Director of the Prime Minister's Office, and acting chairman and member of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
