The government has initiated to ensure smooth supply of fertiliser to help boost agricultural production.
With this end in view, it has already taken an initiative to build 34 buffer godowns at different places of the country for adequate fertiliser storage.
Thirteen of the facilities are being built under the first phase of a project to build 13 buffer godowns.
Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said this while inaugurating a newly built buffer godown at Arajigaighat under Boda upazila in Panchagarh district on Thursday.
The total capacity for 13 buffer godowns will be 0.13-million tonnes, he added.
Mr Humayun said modernisation of Ghorasal-Polash Urea Fertiliser Factory is well under way to boost urea production in order to reduce the country's dependency on imported fertiliser.
Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan, Member of Parliament for Panchagarh-1 constituency Md Mazaharul Haque Prodhan and Chairman of Panchagarh District Council Md Anwar Sadat Samrat were present as special guests.
Panchagarh District Deputy Commissioner Sabina Yasmin presided over the function.
