A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered to freeze a total of 88 bank accounts of sacked Faridpur city unit Awami League general secretary Sazzad Hossain Barkat, his brother Imtiyaj Hasan Rubel and their wives in a case lodged over laundering abroad Taka 2,000 crore.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayesh passed the order, allowing a plea of the investigation agency CID, additional public prosecutor Tapas Kumar Paul said.

According to the case documents, the brothers have made hundreds of crores by grabbing tenders of different government offices including LGED, BRTA, road division in Faridpur in the last 10 years, apart from drug trading and grabbing lands.

The brothers, who used to be associates of a BNP leader of Rajbari and do petty jobs for him earlier, are accused of murdering a lawyer in 1994.
