The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested an official of the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) in Rangpur while receiving money from a female teacher on Monday night promising to transfer her from Thakurgaon to Rangpur.
"The arrested person is acting deputy director at Rangpur divisional office of the DPE Sirajul Islam," Dhaka divisional director of the ACC Nasim Anwar told local reporters on the same office premises after the raid.
"We arrested Sirajul red-handed with Taka 60,000 in cash he had just received from assistant teacher Sharmin Akhter of Balihara Government Primary School under Haripur upazila in Thakurgaon," Nasim added.
He said a special ACC team from its Dhaka divisional office came to Rangpur and nabbed the DPE official during a surprise raid.
"The ACC team also recovered Taka 60,000 from the possession of arrested Sirajul Islam,' Nasim added.
Sirajul earlier demanded Taka 80,000 from Sharmin Akhter and took Taka 20,000 in the first installment, for transferring her to a government primary school in Rangpur city from Balihara Government Primary School in Thakurgaon.
"Deputy director for Dhaka division of the ACC Masudur Rahman filed a case against Sirajul Islam and handed him over to Rangpur Kotwali police station," Nasim said.
