The Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday passed the "Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust Bill, 2018" unanimously by voice votes.
Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahman moved the bill in the House with Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the Chair.
Piloting the bill, he said the proposed bill would help establishing a peaceful society maintaining the communal harmony including welfare of the Buddhist community living in the country.
Placing the bill, the Religious Affairs Minister said the effectiveness of the Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust Ordinance, 1983 was extinct while constitution (seventh amendment) act, 1986 was declared illegal.
Earlier, the government has finalized the draft on the "Buddhist Religious Trust Act, 2018 amending the Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust Ordinance, 1983 and already has recommended by the President, he added.
The Religious Affairs Minister proposed the House to send the bill to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Religious Affairs Ministry for providing report after further scrutinisation of the bill within 15 working days.
