The National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 has recommended a 14-day nationwide shutdown in a bid to check the spread of coronavirus infection in the country.
The suggestion came from a virtual meeting held on Thursday, said a press release signed by NTAC president professor Mohammad Shahidullah.
It was stated in NTAC meeting that Covid-19 infections as well as deaths are on the rise as delta variant of corona is spreading across the country. The transmission capacity of the delta variant is comparatively much higher.
According to experiences of India's top experts, it is impossible to contain the virus without strict measures. The NTAC discussed with Indian experts and learnt that the infections were under control in those places of India where shutdowns were imposed, the press release said.
