Bangladesh will get 10 lakh doses of Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine from the USA as gift on Wednesday under the global vaccine-sharing initiative COVAX.
The consignment, which was scheduled to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 30, will reach Dhaka on today, according to public relations officer of Directorate General of Health Services.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Miller will be present at the airport to receive the vaccine consignment, the PRO added.
Bangladesh will get a total of 60 lakh shots of Pfizer vaccine by September this year.
As part of 60 lakh jabs of Pfizer, Bangladesh will get 10 lakh vaccines today and remaining 50 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in phases by September.
On May 27, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) approved emergency use of Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 vaccine in the country.
Bangladesh has so far approved eight COVID-19 vaccines to control the deadly disease.
The approved COVID-19 vaccines are from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, CoronaVac, Pfizer, Covishield, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm.
