Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been nominated for the International Cricket Council’s Player of the Year award for 2021.
The other three nominees are- Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, South Africa’s Janneman Malan, and Ireland’s Paul Stirling.
In 2021, Shakib returned to the fray in international cricket after serving his one-year ban for not reporting corrupt approaches.
In nine matches, Shakib scored 277 runs at an average of 39.57 including two fifties, and picked up 17 wickets.
He made a brilliant comeback as he won the player of the series award in Bangladesh’s three-match one-day international series against West Indies in January, a series that Bangladesh won 3-0.
Shakib had a lean time during Bangladesh’s three-match home series against Sri Lanka, but he bounced back in the series in Zimbabwe.
He scored 145 runs and picked up eight wickets as he won yet another player of the series award, helping Bangladesh win the series 3-0.
