A fire broke out on Saturday on the premises of the Eastern Refinery in Chattogram but the main refinery was not impacted, said an official at the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) in Dhaka.

“The drainage system has been impacted, not the main refinery,” an official at the BPC In Dhaka said.

“Firefighters responded quickly. The blaze could not spread,” he said on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to talk to media.

Abdul Hamid, an official of the Fire Service and Civil Defence in Chattogram, said that no major damage was reported and the fire came under control before it could spread.
