Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh expressed optimism about visibility of rivers around Dhaka city soon.

“If we can implement the full project in the next two to three years, the scenario of Dhaka would be changed, the city surrounded by rivers will be visible again," he said.

He said this after inspecting ongoing cleaning and digging activities in the Buriganga Adi Channel, said a press release.

"We are not only digging here the river but also fixing the boundary permanently and making it free from illegal occupation,” he said.

“Experts and researchers need to do more effective research on the reasons behind the spread of Aedes and Culex mosquitoes before the season and such research will be supported by the city corporation,” Taposh said.

DSCC is ready to provide financial support if needed, he added.
