Medical supplies to control Covid-19 have been stuck in Chattogram Port for lack of release.
Being in the port for long time, the quality of the equipment worth Tk 77 crore, is deteriorating.
Raising the problem, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has sent a letter to Ministry of Finance seeking allocation of fund.
Sources said medical appliance, given by Japan government in the FY 2022-23, are lying in the port for five months.
To develop government medical sectors, Japan has given 313 medical devices to Bangladesh, including X-ray machines, health monitoring devices, city scanners, electrocardiogram or ECG machines, Blood Gas Analyzer equipment and oxygen generators.
The country, however, has also provided an ambulance and mobile clinic.
To get the products released, Tk 22.39 crore is needed as customs duty.
