Renowned architect and freedom fighter Mubasshar Hussain passed away at a hospital in the capital early Monday.
He breathed his last at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital around 1:30 am.
Architect Iqbal Habib confirmed the news.
The former president of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) had been undergoing treatment at the ICU of the hospital for the last two months.
Mubasshar Hussain’s notable works include Proshika Bhaban, Grameen Bank Bhaban and Chittagong Railway Station.
He was vocal on various issues, including civil rights and environmental movements.
With the demise of Mubasshar Hussain, the country lost an extraordinary patriot, organiser and guardian, the IAB said in a condolence message.
