A top leader of new militant group Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya and one of his associates were arrested from Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar on Monday morning.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested them following a gunfight in the area adjacent to Kutupalong Rohingya camp.

The arrestees were identified as Ranbir, a shura member and head of the military wing of the militant outfit and his associate, Bashar, a bomb expert.

Director of Rab's legal and media wing Khandaker Al Moin confirmed the news.

Local and foreign-made firearms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession, the Rab official said.
