India said Bangladesh parliamentary election will be held as per provision of the Constitution.
Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India, expressed the view of the government at weekly press conference at New Delhi on Friday.
“Bangladesh has a constitutional provision for holding election. We only hope that election would be held peacefully at appropriate time,” he said.
Asked about a Delhi based national daily’s report that Army may plunge into the political arena, he said “This is mere speculation. We do not comment on speculative report. Only thing we hope election is held according to the Constitution.”
When Arindam’s attention was drawn to opposition BNP’s street movement for restoration of caretaker government system, he refused to make any comment.
"Whatever had to say, I replied last week. I don’t want to add more on this subject,” he said.
In 2011, Awami League government abolished the caretaker government through the 15th amendment to the Constitution. Earlier, the Supreme Court in a judgment declared the caretaker government system illegal.
