Bangladesh Railway carried out a test run of a special train on the Dhaka-Bhanga section of the under-construction Dhaka-Jashore rail link project through the Padma Bridge on Thursday.
The train reached Bhanga with Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan and a number of senior railway officials around 12:20 pm after a journey on the 82-km rail line.
The train left Kamalapur for Munshiganj at 10:12 am and crossed Mawa Railway Station of Munshiganj at 11:20 am when the enthusiastic passengers waiting for their trains waved their hands and welcomed the train.
Earlier, Bangladesh Railways ran a trial train from Bhanga to Mawa end of Padma Bridge on April 4 after the completion of the stoneless railway line on the Padma Bridge.
The trial run is being conducted as part of the project officials' relentless efforts to prepare the section for its formal opening.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may inaugurate it on October 10, according to project officials.
