Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has moved to build a second runway of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).

The runway will be used as an alternative to the main runway.

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Mafidur Rahman said feasibility study of making the runway has been completed in the meantime.

The idea of constructing the alternative runway is nothing new as initiative to build the runway was taken in 1996 and 2009. But the same did not happen for various reasons.

Mafidur Rahman said "After third terminal comes into operation, flight frequency will increase requiring the second runway."
