US Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Afreen Akhter arrived in Dhaka on Monday on a three-day visit.
During her visit, Bangladesh's general election and Rohingya crisis are likely to be discussed, said a diplomatic source.
Afreen Akhter will hold a meeting with Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen. She will also visit the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar.
Last week, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen met the US deputy assistant secretary in Sri Lanka.
“It was a very good and positive discussion, including Bangladesh's general election and human rights. I informed her that the government of Bangladesh wants to hold a free and fair election,” Momen said.
