A revenue supervisor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) named Upol Dey was terminated on charge of embezzling Tk 12.40 lakh which was collected as holding tax.

A Dhaka court sent him to jail as Shahbag police produced him before the court after arrest in a case filed by deputy taxation officer of zone-1 Saiful Islam.

The terminated employee was posted as revenue supervisor for Zones 1 and 7, according to a press release from the DSCC issued on Tuesday.

According to a DSCC order, on 31 July, supervisor Upol Dey received a total of Tk 12.40 lakh as holding tax for holding 3 of ward 73 from its owner, SM Manjur Morshed.

He gave the holding owner a receipt copy (no-2158) of the money but actually he did not submit the amount to the official account of the DSCC. 

In the duplicate copy of the receipt (no 2158), Uthpol wrote the name of a different holding owner showing the received money Tk 104. 

On 4 December, when the holding owner Manjur approached DNCC higher officials at Nagar Bhaban to verify whether the holding tax was submitted, the embezzlement came to light, the press release stated.
