The Election Commission has instructed the Narayanganj deputy commissioner and returning officer not to appoint Jamuna Bank officials as assistant presiding officers in the Narayanganj-1 (Rupganj) constituency during the 12th parliamentary election, slated for 7 January.
The Election Commission Secretariat issued the instruction on 2 January following a complaint filed by Trinamool BNP candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker.
On 30 December, Taimur filed the complaint for not appointing the bank officials as assistant presiding officers during the election at the constituency.
Other aspirants, who are contesting the polls from this constituency, also alleged that Awami League-nominated candidate Golam Dastagir Gazi, also the textiles and jute minister, has been obstructing their campaigns in various ways with the “armed terrorists.”
As the former chairman of Jamuna Bank, Gazi enlisted several officers of the bank as assistant presiding officers to take “unethical advantage” at polling stations, they said.
