Election Commissioner Mohammad Alamgir has said the upazila elections will begin in the country in phases in the last week of April and continue until the last week of May.

He came up with the information at the Election Commission office at Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday.

Commissioner Alamgir said, “The SSC examination is approaching, and then the fasting month of Ramadan. We are making preparations in order to hold upazila elections after the Eid-ul-Fitr. We will complete the elections by the last week of May, beginning in the last week of April."

The Election Commissioner, however, could not confirm whether the elections could be held using electronic voting machine (EVM) or ballot paper.

“The elections may be held by using EVM or ballot. Even the elections can be held with the coordination of the EVM or ballot," he said.
