Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is set to visit Dhaka next month and it would make him the first emir from the powerful Middle East country to visit Bangladesh in nearly two decades.
He will start a two-day visit on 22 April.
About 10 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on fuel, export of human resources, enhancing trade and commerce, and defence cooperation will be signed after a meeting between the Qatar emir and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sources said.
Qatar and Bangladesh signed a MoU on defence cooperation last year, and both sides would seek to further the cooperation during the emir’s visit. In total, 100 seafarers from Bangladesh Navy are now serving in Qatar under a bilateral agreement.
Qatar has also signed a MoU on maritime security due to which, the Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel are currently working in the Gulf country.
